The Portals to the Power of the Yin
over 1 year ago – Wed, Nov 16, 2022 at 09:02:07 PM

The Body and Longing are the two cards that begin the journey of the Power of the Yin Oracle Deck.

The limits of embodiment continually call us back to our resource in the Yin. When we have strayed too far, pushed too hard, ignored our sensitivity or our desires, or avoided the path of healing for too long,The Body knows how to get our attention.  Sexual desire that takes us by surprise, chronic illness or injury, anxiety or mysterious symptoms all pull us back into relationship with the Yin.  We are drawn into the underworld and the shadowlands where we can rediscover pleasure, liberation and find true wholeness.

Longing of all kinds—for home, a lover, children; for a sense of fulfillment, or oneness with the Divine—starts us on our spiritual path.  Longing is an expression of the soul.  It calls us back into energetic harmony, and the nuance of the Yin and the invisible world.  Longing leads us to cultivate our subtle powers and integrate heaven and earth.

Yin and Yang

I'm offering these two cards today as an exercise in polarities: the Yin way, and the Yang way.

How do you feel when you read each card?

What do you notice in your body as you look at each illustration?

Does one make you feel tired and heavy and the other light and open?  Does one of them bring a sense of excitement?  Which one awakens your creativity?

Does one feel familiar and habitual while not necessarily feeling powerful?

Do you feel a "yes"--like a balm to your being, when you look at one--or both of them?

Contemplating these cards and these questions is a simple way to do a little yin-yang diagnosis on yourself.  You can get a sense of your depletion or your excess.  Or you can feel your balance and harmony.  You may need a little of one energy just to support the fullness of the other, its opposite.  Or you may need to let one energy completely take the back seat, while the other steps up to nourish and resource you.

I'd love to hear some of your answers to these questions!  Share in the comments below!

It's not just for women.

My friend Frank, connecting with the Embodiment card.

When I first had the idea for this deck, it was "The Power of the Yin Oracle Deck for Women."

Then, just before this Kickstarter launch, I realized that it wasn't just for women.

We all have an intuitive, internal, subtle aspect to ourselves.

We all have a deep connection to the earth and access to the invisible world (a card in the deck).

We all have the potential to open to our deep inner knowing, to slow down, go to the quiet place, and trust the creation cycle that we are part of.

And we all exist in a culture that rewards the opposite: thinking over feeling; action; winning.

This deck is a guide not only to embodying our Yin, but to integrating our energetic polarities, so we can experience healing, wholeness and empowerment.  That's for everyone!

Have you seen ALL the cards?

Devotion: What does it mean to you?
over 1 year ago – Thu, Nov 10, 2022 at 09:44:12 PM

Amazingly, every card in the Power of the Yin Oracle Deck has either a finished illustration or a sketch that Yael and I have agreed on—except one.

We've had several ideas, each one a very different direction:

  • A mother and baby (the devotion of motherhood)
  • A woman and her dog in a very beautiful circular embrace (dogs being such creatures of devotion, and our devotion to our animal companions)
  • A circle of women gathered together (the devotion to our community/sisterhood).

None of these has quite hit the mark.  My original intention for Devotion was to a spiritual practice with self-reverence at its heart--basically the theme of the entire deck.  Several other cards, Self-Cultivation, Self-Reverence, and the entire set of Your Most Precious Resources all speak to this specifically.

Between the concept, the constraints of a 3.5x5" card, and considering what the deck still needs thematically, we haven't yet arrived at the right image.

Here's where you come in.

I would love your input: what images come to your mind/heart/being as you read the words above?

What does Devotion mean to you?

How do you express it?

What inspires Devotion in you?

Your feedback and comments will inspire and help me solve this final, beautiful puzzle piece in the Power of the Yin Oracle.  Thank you!
