I just had the pleasure of being in a live conversation and interview with Amber Tawn of @Lavender Moon on YouTube. You can watch the replay here.
I was able to share my personal path with the Power of the Yin and together we explored the journey of this oracle deck that I've co-created with artist D. Yael Bernhard.
This was a wide-ranging and in-depth conversation. Amber and I had such an easy connection and her community of live listeners was engaged and brought more insights into the discussion.

Illustrating "Risk"

D. Yael Bernhard, my collaborator and illustrator for The Power of the Yin Oracle Deck, has just written another post about our project as part of her Image of the Week email.
I love hearing about her process creating these illustrations. It just occured to me that she has a story like this for all 57 of the cards in the deck. I want to hear about each one!
I decided to take a small risk as an artist, by not controlling the image. Could I trust a loose, even sloppy brush? I wanted the illustration to have a quality of raw emotion, upwellings of fear and courage. The woman feels this stormy flare, yet she's hopeful, looking up, feeling inspired to go forward. This is not foolish, impulsive risk, but the crystallization of conviction. She holds herself with firm but open hands. A rainbow of possibilities radiates from within her, with cool, calming colors at the center. Her inner eye is focused on her intentions. She's determined but humble, with a purity of vision emanating from within. Perhaps she's only pretending to be confident as she goes forward – I know what this feels like! She continues nonetheless.
It was Daven herself who inspired this image. She is taking a huge risk in creating this deck, walking into totally new territory, publishing and marketing a completely new product, putting her resources and reputation on the line, bringing a longtime vision into form. Her determination is inspiring, yet she was relaxed enough to allow me to try all different ideas in the illustrations, and ways of executing them. The choices in conceptual illustration are infinite. Every one of these cards could have taken a completely different direction. Again and again, I took the risk of trial and error. Because Daven trusted me and herself, it worked.
And in collaborating this way, we were acting in the spirit of the deck itself – the power of the yin, or feminine, which is intuitive, receptive, responsive, and fluid. What a pleasure!

This is the practice of showing up, as is:
exposed, radiant, and true.
Simple, right? I wish I could say I'm able to manifest this kind of courage in the face of all risks. As an artist, I can be bold; taking chances no longer frightens me, even when my professional work is at stake. Au contraire, it keeps my work fresh. In other areas of life it's not so easy. I tried to bring this feeling, too, into the illustration.

There are some FUN things you can add on: the Power of the Yin Inbox Retreat (you can now subscribe to 57 weeks--one for every card in the deck!), and my instant access course "You Are Not Alone: Connect With Guides & Guidance" (this is a GREAT accompaniment to the deck and will keep you occupied while you wait for your rewards!).
What will NOT happen with this survey:
You won't be charged yet for shipping. I plan to enter & charge backers for shipping a month or so before fulfillment when I have better estimates of what it will cost to ship your rewards.
You won't be charged yet for any add-ons or upgrades. This means you can make changes as your order will stay open until I "lock it." I will give you a 48-hour heads-up when I'm going to charge you for your order. (If you purchase a digital add-on, I'll charge you for this right away so you can get immediate access and start enjoying it!)

You do not need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey. When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey link to respond. Answer the questions about your reward preferences, provide shipping information, and purchase add-on items if you like.
After you respond to your survey, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before I close the surveys and get final counts.
